Christmas at Holy Trinity with St John's
We would love to welcome you to our special services for Advent and Christmas 2024. As we wait in expectation for and then celebrate the birth of Jesus, we will be reflecting in our worship on what it means for God to choose to dwell with us, to share in both the joys and the sorrows of our earthly life.
Messy Christingle
Our very popular Messy Christingle service on Advent Sunday returns for its third year. Come for an afternoon of craft, games and creativity as we engage with the theme of the light of Jesus coming into the darkness of the world and make your own Christingle to use during our short, interactive celebration, leading up to the magical moment when we light the candles, dim the lights and experience the wonder of this season. Carols by Candlelight
Christmas begins with the Carol Service! On this fourth Sunday of Advent, we gather to share in the re-telling of the Christmas story from the Bible, and to sing those well-loved and familiar carols together. Although not specifically aimed at children, this service will be accessible and suitable for the whole family to attend together.
Crib Service
Again in its third year, we welcome you on the afternoon of Christmas Eve to our Crib Service. This short, informal service is prepared especially with families with children under 11 in mind, but everybody is welcome to come and celebrate with us. Children and adults alike are invited to come dressed as your favourite Nativity character (human or animal!) - but please don't buy costumes as we will have plenty available on the day. Together, we will tell the story of Christmas, and will gather at the manger.
Midnight Service
When the table is laid, the vegetables prepared, the decorations are up and Santa has done his work, we may need an opportunity to pause, take stock and reflect. Our service at 11pm on Christmas Eve is for anyone who is seeking a quiet moment amidst the busy-ness of the season. There will be readings and carols, and the opportunity to celebrate the First Holy Communion of Christmas.
Christmas Day
We celebrate the birth of a Saviour in a joyful, informal service for all ages on Christmas morning lasting no more than an hour. There will be readings, carols, Communion - and probably one or two special surprises...
