At Holy Trinity with St John's we are pleased to be working in partnership with Christians Against Poverty (CAP), a national debt support and advice charity that works through a network of centres based in local churches. The Penge Centre runs from our St John's site which covers Penge and the surrounding area.

Christians Against Poverty (CAP) offers a totally free, accredited debt help service. We’ll empower you to take back control of your finances and support you with debt advice and practical help all the way through to becoming debt free.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is CAP just for Christians?

No. CAP helps anyone regardless of their religious beliefs. CAP aims to ensure that everyone is treated equally on the grounds of race, nationality, religion, age, gender, marital status, sexual preference or disability.

Does is cost anything?

No. Our service is completely free.

Will my creditors cooperate with you?

Yes. We have worked with over 1,000 companies within the finance industry and are well respected. This means that councils, utilities, mortgage companies and other creditors work with us because they have seen the results of our involvement. They know we offer fair repayments based on what you can afford.

How we can help?

When you ring the freephone number, you will be given an appointment with a debt coach near to where you live.
During your first appointment, your debt coach will explain how the process works and what paperwork is required.
Usually our debt coaches work in the St John’s Church site, however a home visit may be possible.
Three or four appointments are normally required to complete the initial stages of your journey out of debt.

What about my children?

We actively welcome families with children of all ages. If your child is a baby or a toddler, they will remain with you for the duration of the service. A welcomer will give you a Toddler Bag as you come in - these contain a variety of toys and games to entertain your child. We are aware that it can be very hard for a toddler to remain in their seat throughout the service. If your child is getting restless, there is space on the carpeted area at the back where they can move about - and don't worry at all if they make a noise!
